Federation Homes’ Residents Make Holidays Meaningful for Local Residents

As part of Federation Homes’ commitment to the community, this past holiday season residents collected donations to provide Thanksgiving meals to two needy families with children in the town of Bloomfield, CT. The baskets included a turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings! For Christmas, the children from these two families gave us their wish lists. Thanks to our residents’ generosity, the children received everything that they requested making it a very special holiday.

“It’s important that residents feel part of the greater community and that they can contribute to making it a better place,” commented Jonathan Reiner, Federation Homes’ executive director. “Residents really appreciate being given the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Since 1982, Federation Homes has been providing outstanding independent living to very low income older adults and individuals with disabilities. Grounded in Jewish values, Federation Homes offers housing to a diverse population of 108 individuals from all backgrounds. Our mission is to provide a safe, secure and supportive home while promoting independence through diverse educational, cultural and social programs that enhance quality of life and support residents’ desire to remain in the community.

We are a HUD subsidized property that offers service coordination, weekday kosher hot lunches, and a wide variety of recreational programs. As part of our commitment to keep residents healthy and physically and socially active, residents can attend daily exercise, twice weekly yoga and pottery classes as well as monthly performances by professional entertainers and holiday parties throughout the year.

Along with bingo, Pokeno and card games, popular amenities include pinball and bowling machines, a jukebox, ping pong, a piano, large screen televisions, a resident computer lab, and a lending library with both print and e-books. Raised-bed gardening and other outdoor activities also get our residents moving and out and about.
