2014 Dr. Herbert Shore Award of Honor

Mary Ellen Bloodgood, Menorah Park

Mary Ellen Bloodgood is the Chief Executive Officer of Menorah Park, located in Syracuse, NY. She has had 26 years of distinguished service at Menorah Park, turning a stand-alone skilled nursing home into a full continuum of care campus. Prior to being appointed as Chief Executive Officer, Mary Ellen was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. During her tenure, she has led the transformation of her agency into a model Jewish communal resource serving the Syracuse community. Mary Ellen and her board have taken on the “gold standard” of excellence in care and in doing so serve as role models for us all.

Mary Ellen also serves with great distinction as treasurer of our association-and she’s done so during very difficult financial and organizational times. Her keen fiscal skills were called upon daily as she helped steer our association to financial health. Also during the New York State budget cycle, she can be seen on many occasions at the State Capitol, advocating for the residents that we care for each day.

Mary Ellen is one of the most respected professionals in the Syracuse Jewish community, having created an institute for applied research, incorporated a struggling Jewish Family Services Agency into the corporate umbrella of Menorah Park, and has begun work on a museum that will preserve and display the art and artifacts of the Central New York Jewish community.
