The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Village Assisted Living Residences has served the needs of seniors within the greater Tampa Bay community since its opening in 1995, providing assisted living accommodations with an independent lifestyle. Weinberg Village offers a sense of community unlike any other assisted- living residence across the country. Residents are able to enjoy a beautiful 21-acre gated multi-generational experience on the Maureen and Douglas Cohn Jewish Community Campus. The 21-acre facility is home to a JCC preschool, a JCC and Weinberg Village.
Seniors can be found interacting with preschoolers, and residents are able to enjoy a myriad of stimulating and social programs at the JCC in addition to the full calendar of activities offered at Weinberg Village. The campus entertains and cares for individuals from 2 to 102+ years of age!
Weinberg Village is dedicated to not only providing professional and compassionate care for its residents, they are committed to celebrating the lifetime achievements of Tampa’s Jewish seniors.
Weinberg Village hosts two premier events through the year – the Stephen Weinberg 8 Over 80 Awards and an event celebrating those over the ripe age of 90, the Oldest Jewish Americans Brunch. Both events provide an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of the very individuals that are the building blocks of the Tampa community and communities across the country.
Now in its sixth year, the organization’s primary fundraiser, the Stephen Weinberg 8 over 80 Awards, recognizes eight distinguished honorees that are ages 80 and over who have dedicated their time, talent and lives to the Jewish Community. All past award recipients have lived according to the principle of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and exemplify life practices to be modeled by future generations.
“This event not only brings our community together to recognize such remarkable individuals, it serves as a much-needed reminder of the significant impact our seniors have made in our community,” said Aaron Silberman, past president of Weinberg Village board of managers at the 2016 Awards.
This event is unique to Weinberg Village and it certainly leaves a lasting impression on all that participate in the day’s festivities. This program lifts the spirits of honorees and it elevates the entire community exemplifying just how important Jewish communal service is to create a better Jewish tomorrow.
In addition, proceeds raised help to enhance the Weinberg Village facility and provide much needed subsidies and supportive services for residents in need of financial assistance.
Jewish history puts much emphasis on its elders and the wisdom they bestow. In fact, it reads in the Talmud: “You should rise before the elderly and honor the aged.” (Leviticus 19:32). Weinberg Village operates in accordance with the Jewish principle chesed (compassionate) and honors the elderly not just twice a year, but every day.
